If you find yourself coming home from the grocer store with more items that you need, here are a few things that you need to do to prevent this from happening.

1.  Plan monthly menus and learn how to serve your family nutritious meals which consist of grains and vegetables as they are relatively inexpensive.

2.  For each recipe, making a list of all the ingredients and the quantity you will need for each recipe will save you lots of time.

3.  Make some of the foods yourself that you normally purchase. For example, if your family likes to eat bread, French fries, or even granola, you can easily make these things at home rather than buying them from the store.  Homemade foods are much healthier than store bought and they even taste better. You will also be cutting back on your spending since you will be able to take
some of the homemade foods for snacks or lunches.

4.  Know your grocery store and do not wander through the aisles.  You simply need to  head for the items that you need to purchase.

5.  Do your grocery shopping when it is less busy. The best time for grocery shopping is early in the morning or in the early afternoon. Another thing to keep in mind is that you should not go grocery shopping when you are hungry or tired.  This will extend your trip and you will spend more.

6.  Budget for your time and your money. An adequate amount of time should be allotted for your grocery shopping trip but do not exceed the time limit. You will stay motivated if you stick to the time limit.

7.  If you grocery shopping was successful, reward yourself with a fun activity. Looking forward to the fun activity will help you to relax during your shopping trip.

8.  Do not go to the grocery store unless you need to go there. Frequently trips to the grocery store will not only make you spend more money during the month but they also consume a great deal of your time.

9.  Buy most of your grocery items in bulk when it is possible. This will not only cut down on the number of trips to the grocery store, it will save a lot of time and money as well because it is always cheaper to buy in bulk.

10.  Understand that the world is not a perfect place. As a result, breathe deeply if you forget your shopping list or if you went to store later in the day or even if you spent more money that you intended.

The most important thing is that you try to stick to your budget most of the time and it will pay off in savings in the end.
