I am sure if you checked out kids summer camps you know how expensive they are just to keep kids occupied for a few hours a day and you are asking yourself how can I save money? Instead of sending them to summer camp, you might want to come up with creative ideas to keep them entertained and occupied this summer for very little money or even for free. What is available?

Programs at Bookstores/Libraries

Most libraries and bookstores increase their programming during the summer months.  The programs they offer usually include things like making crafts, they usually include book clubs and things like visits from authors.  Some of these things will not cost you a dime. Now for libraries, they host clowns, cartoonist and magicians among other things.

Church Vacation Bible Programs

Many churches offer day camps for youth. For the most part, you will have to pay a very small fee as the churches subsidizes these programs. They treat the kids to things such as crafting, singing and many outdoor activies. If they are several churches in your area, you might consider finding out what type of programs they all offer and sign up at different churches for the programs that you think will interest your children. You might have to give up some of your time yourself to prepare snack and help out so you want to find out what the requirements are before you commit.

Babysitting Co-op

Another thing you can do is to team up with your friends who have children because I am sure there are dealing with the same babysitting issues as you are so why not find out what they are doing in the summer and team up to provide each other support. The way you can do this is each family can host the children for a few hours for just one day in the week. This will free up some time for you to do things that you need to do and it will cost you next to nothing.

Mother’s Helper

Regardless of whether your children are young or old, you will need help entertaining them so you can get your homemaking chores done so this is not a bad idea. If your children are older, you will probably need some help for them as well so your home remains sane. For each of these situations, a mother’s helper may be your ticket. For the most part a mother’s helper is someone who is not as old as a babysitter and who is hired to take care of the kids while you are not there. These helpers for the most part will ask for less money than a high school sitter and is ideal for help either as long term or part term help.

Start a Part-time Daycare

If you want to earn extra money, you can offer babysitting services at your home. If this is something that might interest you, you always want to check out the requirements in your town or city but most States do not require a license if you are offering casual babysitting. If you want to provide reliable care, you will have to structure your schedule. By offering a service in your home that is safe and that parents can rely on while they are at work, may be an adequate solution to your own summertime activities.

Ingenuity is key in keeping your children entertained in summer and it does not have to cost a lot of money.
